What happens when the world’s fastest driver steps into England’s most iconic sport? Max Verstappen, reigning Oracle Red Bull Racing Formula 1 World Champion, traded the track for the cricket field in a high-performance crossover alongside England Cricket Board stars Reece Topley, Will Jacks, and Issa Wong.
Although cricket was completely new to Verstappen, his signature Better Never Stops mindset shone through as he took on the challenge with determination and adaptability.
"We’re going to show him the ropes, put him under a bit of pressure, and see how many runs he can score. He’s the best in the world at what he does," said the England Cricket Board players, ready to test Verstappen’s raw sporting instincts.
After a quick lesson in technique, Verstappen stepped up to face a six-ball challenge, aiming to score as many runs as possible. Despite joking that he “nearly killed someone” during practice, his natural athleticism was undeniable, managing to land an impressive 4 out of 6. To truly test his skills, the team introduced him to the speed and intensity of a fastball.
Reece Topley was impressed: "When someone picks up a bat for the first time, you never know what to expect, but for a first-timer, that was really good."
In true Oracle Red Bull Racing fashion, the crossover wouldn’t be complete without testing the cricket team’s skills behind the wheel. The England players took turns in the race car simulator, swapping their cricket whites for the fast-paced world of Formula 1.
"It was good. I liked it because, of course, for me it was completely new," Verstappen reflected. The same could be said for the ECB stars, experiencing the precision and control required in Verstappen’s world.
Though cricket and motorsport are worlds apart, the parallels are striking. Both require laser focus, relentless discipline, and the ability to perform under pressure when it matters most.
This unique collaboration proved one thing above all: whether it’s setting lap records or smashing boundaries, excellence knows no boundaries. For Verstappen, Topley, and their teams, the pursuit of Better Never Stops.
