Castore Takes to the Ashes - Old Trafford

Kristin Kennedy-Brown - July 21, 2023

In commemoration of our Summer of Sport campaign, we headed to the Ashes at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground on Thursday 20th July. We kickstarted the day pulling up in our Castore branded defender just outside of the ground - dressed in our Castore cricket whites and England Cricket hats ready for the day ahead. Our team consisted of members from our Marketing, Social, Eccom, and Sports Marketing channels.

The defender was emblazoned with our recent Ashes campaign ‘Immortality is just 22 yards away’, as well as our iconic Castore wings. Parked just outside of the Old Trafford tram stop, the defender caught the eye of the public as they made their way to the cricket ground.

We handed out 25 highly sought after England Cricket bucket hats to the first 25 spectators to scan the Castore QR code. But luckily for the crowds, the freebies didn’t stop there, we had plenty of Castore caps and other goodies for the fans to get their hands on.

Not only did we see a huge uplift in Castore sign ups, we also got to experience the excitement of the fans first hand on day two of the Fourth men’s ashes test. Senior marketing manager Lisa Brennen, said “it was great to connect with our community offline at the Ashes - there was an amazing atmosphere and made us inspired to do more”.

The entertainment didn’t stop at the defender for Castore, the marketing team then headed inside to spend the rest of the afternoon cheering on England, amongst a sea of Castore wings. It was a proud moment as England delivered an all-time Ashes performance on the 20th July - as Zac Crawley stroked a spectacular 189 off 182 balls, stunning Australia.

Despite this, the weather wash out at Old Trafford at the weekend, unfortunately resulted in the Australian visitors being 2-1 up in the series with only one match left to play. The fans turned up in their thousands to witness England win, however the Manchester downpour had other ideas.
