England Rugby - The story behind the design

“If you add up all the one per cents from the little things, they become big things. Those small margins are ultimately what takes you to the next level.”

Cadan Murley lives in the margins. A world where milliseconds and millimetres separate triumph from disappointment. A toe in touch, a fingertip lost – fine lines that define elite sport.

For the England winger, every fraction counts. That’s why he’s deeply invested in the kit he wears – because when performance is everything, the details matter.

A New Chapter for England Rugby

The summer of 2025 marks a bold step forward. England Rugby enters a new era with Castore as its official technical kit partner – a multi-year collaboration designed to raise standards across the men’s and women’s teams, as well as the wider performance staff.

When England’s men take to the field in Buenos Aires this July, it will be in kit defined by technical precision – engineered in partnership with those who wear it.

Tested to Perform

From four-way stretch shorts with 280gsm strength to ‘cotton touch’ shirts with moisture-wicking capability, Castore’s England Rugby range is built to perform under pressure.

Every stitch has been tested. Every material trialled. Murley, part of Castore’s player feedback process, knows first-hand how that development work translates into on-pitch performance.

“It’s massive for the players to be able to give feedback,” he says. “We’re the ones who need to perform – even in training. The standard now is so high. You need the right kit to prepare. Castore gets that.”

Proven at Club, Elevated for Country

Murley is no stranger to Castore’s relentless pursuit of better. With Harlequins already part of the Castore family, he’s grown with the brand.

“We love it. The quality of the kit has gone through the roof. Castore’s always helped us stay unique – bold colours, distinctive looks. But it’s the performance that really matters.”

His faith in the brand is reflected in his role as an ambassador – not just wearing the kit, but helping shape it.

Marginal Gains, Maximum Impact

Murley’s journey is one of persistence and fine-tuning – the same mentality that drives Castore’s design and development.

“I’ve torn my hamstrings more times than I can count,” he explains. “And there’s so many small things you can work on to avoid that. Marginal gains – that’s what gets you to the next level.”

That shared pursuit of precision makes Castore the natural choice. As Murley puts it: “Wearing kit by Castore, who have that same push and that same philosophy – it’s perfect.”

Built for the Big Stage

England’s tour opener in Argentina will be a milestone. But the spotlight grows even brighter in August, as the Red Roses begin their home World Cup campaign in Sunderland.

The women’s kit carries a powerful design message: breaking the glass ceiling. Originally conceived for the Red Roses, the theme now unites both kits for the 2025–26 season.

“It speaks to empowerment, to progress,” says Castore designer Chloe “It became a unifying message – and a symbol of purpose woven into the design.”

Precision Meets Purpose

Every decision – from collar structure to colour palette – balances performance with symbolism. The development process prioritises strength, comfort, and technical refinement before any aesthetic is finalised.

“We weigh performance against aesthetic goals,” adds Chloe. “There’s no compromise on function. Once we know the kit performs under rugby’s intensity, the design brings it to life.”
